Were Our Founding Fathers Futurists?

It’s hard to deny that our founding fathers did an excellent job on the Constitution of the United States of America. And although we’ve had a few problems along the way such as a civil war that was quite bloody, indeed, it appears the founding fathers understood more about the future of America than most people give them credit for. It is amazing that there are so many important considerations in our Constitution and the Bill of Rights that are so vital to the needs of our people.

One has to ask; “how did our founding fathers know what to put in these documents? Were our founding fathers Futurists?” It appears they were, and it seems they had studied their history extremely well. They knew of all the philosophy and types of governments that had come and gone before them. This means that history is an extremely important part of predicting the future.

Of course this comes as no surprise to us, as many people often recite the famous quote; “those who fail to understand their history are doomed to repeat it.”

So what can we learn from all of this as we study Futurism? We should realize that we should not be misled by those that tell us that next time will be different. Or that in the future everything will change so drastically. Perhaps, the technology will change drastically but human innate character seems to change very slowly.

If we fail to take into consideration the characteristics of the species when trying to project what the future will be like; we will fail. However if we do what our founding fathers did and understand these aspects of the way people think, and study our history we just might be able to project our technologies into the future and come up with a reasonable futuristic scenario of how life will be.
